Kolia divide themaelve into two classes (I) Gaikriya Koli, (2) Dom Koli. Tha Gaikriya Koll claims to he a non-Dom and as such, claims for bimself a place somewhere between Khassiya and dom. He feels offended if he is called a dom either by a Rajput or a Dom and will even file a defamatory suit against him. Up till now only one case seems to have gone as far as the Hazur court, the final court of justice in Tehri garhwal state, in which the punisgment of fine on the accused was upheld on the ground that the word dom was, under the circumstances of the case, definitely used with intent to insult and to provoke the complainant koli. But a decree purportmg to declare the status of the Koli as a non-Dom, has not been given so far by any court. The Gaikriya Koli observes many Hindu cerimonies - such as untouchability of a woman for 11 daya after child-birth, garhapuja or propitisting the star, and the keeping of horoscope.
